We love BIG hair at Gro, and we also love a good period drama when we’re not busy making you all look fabulous. They really knew how to do big hair in the ‘olden days’
Our current favourite is ITV’s Mr Selfridge. Set in the early 20th century, it brings back the classic American ‘Gibson Girl’ hairstyle, that is itself a more modern take on the Marquise de Pompadour’s look form the mid 1700s.
The look was created by back combing the (very long) hair and setting it high over the forehead, often supported and drawn over a matted piece of hair called a ‘Rat’. The sides and back of the hair were also brought up into the crown and the outer layers smoothed to give a soft, fluffy overall look.
These classic Edwardian looks can be easily recreated using some of our great bumble and bumble styling range (Spray de Mode, Surf Spray, Thickening Hairspray and Styling Wax would be perfect).
So, if you fancy stepping back in time for a party or special occasion why not come in and have some fun…
